Default Consumer Battery Failure

SL500R - 2003
Has anyone had problems with the Consumer Battery going dead if the car is not driven for two weeks?

have you done the service measure for the battery control module already?

it monitors the current drain and shuts down the suspected component.

When my 2004 SL is not driven for 2 weeks either of two things may happen. I will come out to the garage and find that the car has mysteriously locked itself. Dealer claims that is a defense against the battery running down. (Explanation sounds suspicious to me!). Beyond that, I have driven the car when the battery was almost dead. Never has been totally dead yet. (That may take 3 weeks.).

you need to purchase a maintenance battery charger. Mercedes sell one that won't fry the electronics in your car if left on over a period of time. It sells for around $135.00. I was able to find the exact same charger without the Mercedes symbol for $70. It is manufactured in Sweden by CTEK and it is model 3300. You can order one from www.mustangsunlimited.com or many other online sites. This is a "must have" for cars that are not daily drivers. I don't know if other "trickle"chargers are safe for the car's electronics. This one is approved by Mercedes-Benz. I hard-wired this chargers leads right to the battery terminals so it's a simple "plug and play".
