ALLDATA - OEM Auto Repair Information for Professionals they will give you what is a fair cost to repair on many things. subscription is about $15 for a year $35 for 3. is well worth it and will show you generally how to fix yourself. it has been my experience that a dealer will charge 1/3 more, at least. so, the cost will depend on where you take it. get a price from an independent shop that's been in business for a long time and it would be nice if they specialize in german cars. the independent I go to is always within a few dollars of what alldata shows. it's not that hard to do brakes. you can go to www.autohausaz.com to see what parts and tools would cost if you tackled the job yourself.

Thanks for the info... i have taken it to a local private service shop, specializing in up end (mostly german, mercedes , porsche , audi etc) and the owner and all of his techs were formerly at a local mercedes/Bmw dealer.... so im pretty confident as to their professionalism... got a quote from them that seemed a bit rich for the task... but less than the dealer.... so ill dig a littler deeper per your advice
thanks
