1989 560SL turn indicator flasher location
Hi,
I'm new to MBs, and have an immediate problem that is probably basic, but I don't have a manual yet.
Myturn indicators stopped working yesterday, and I've checked and verified the fuses. If this car is anything like others, and I've discovered that it isn't, it has a flasher device somewhere. I don't know where it is located or what it looks like. Can anyone please enlighten me? People look at me strangely when I use hand signals, andI get horns honked at me, but, most of all, it is scary.
Cheers,
Mike

RE: 1989 560SL turn indicator flasher location
Hi Mike, I had the same problem with my '86 560SL. I took it to my mechanic and he fixed it by replacing the emergency flasher switch in the center console. Have you checked your Emergency flashers? I know it's been a month since your post with no replys, so you may have already worked this out. Just thought I would chime in and share my recent discovery.
Good luck, BlueSL560

Hi Mike,
I had the same stuation and sure enough, it was the emergency flasher. I did not replace it, I just pulled the wires away from each other and coated the bare wire that had been chaffed. No problems since.

Flasher location, 560SL
The actual flasher relay on my '86 560SL was finally found kind of to the left of the speedometer. If you remove the LF speaker, you can - assuming small hands, reach in palm down and you will find a relay a bit larger than 1" square and about 2" high. If you operate the turn signals, you will find that you can feel it "clicks" as it makes/breaks contact. If it does, it is operating so leave it alone. If you have to get it out, pull straight up and be SURE to note its orientation so you can get it back in as it will be a bear to do anyway as there is just no room and you can't see it. If you forget to note it, the two contacts go to the right and the single to the left.
If you have large hands, forget it as there is no room and it's sharp getting in there.
