1989 420sel blower motor resistor
#2
I'm going from memory of several years ago, so it may be a little fuzzy...
It's not actually a resistor, but rather a "fusible link" - basically a thin metal strap that screws into place. So electrically it is essentially a fuse.
There is a small black plastic box, roughly 3" x 1" x a bit less than 1", with fairly thick wire coming out of each end. My memory is fuzzy as to the exact location (my car is a 1991 420SEL (a W126, like yours). But it is in the general vicinity of the brake master cylinder. Not that far from the engine compartment fuse box, but separate from it, and bolted down.
I seem to think that the plastic cover pops off, and then the fusible link is visible, held in place inside the housing by two screws.
I've had to replace mine twice - the first time there was a fairly obvious hairline crack visible. The second time, it looked fine, but an ohmeter measurement showed an open.
I also want to say that for some reason I think the current rating of this link is more like 50A?
Hope this helps, despite my fuzziness!
