Default Whining/Idling noise after Engine is SHUT OFF?!?!

I have a 2001 ML 430. Last night i shut off the engine and it sounded like it was still on. I checked under the hood while the car was off and everything looked okay except for the fact that engine sounded like it was still idling but no parts were moving. I disconnected the battery and it stopped right awaybut as soon as I made a slight connection that loud noise would come back. I decided to leave the battery disconnected and it seems that it has cleared my navi unit because it's asking me for some kind of code. I can't use the cd player or radio either. Did anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone know the code? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Did the noise sound like the electric fans in front of the radiator were on??? You should have your radio code in your black book.....All radios have different codes..

Yes it did sound like the fans. Is this a common problem on these models or is just the cold weather affecting it?

I did find the codes by going to the dealer. I was surprised that they didn't charge anything for looking up the codes.
