Default Transmission or Transfer case??

HI all...I'm new to this and will keep it brief. 02 ML500 123K miles. When taking off it feels like I am running over a stick. That's the best way I know to explain it. Any ideas?

I put my foot on the brake and re-enacted the same scenario (without moving forward of course) and there is a
"popping sound" emitted for underneath the vehicle. Thanks...

It may be something as simple as the torsion bar bearings need re-shimmiing, or lubricating, best to search the various forums either individually or using Google.

Several minor things it could be. Sway bar businings, cv joint wear or U-joint wear if it has them. Could also be a transmission or engine mount, and usuallywith these they'reaccompanied by a rougher than normal feeling idle.
