Default Need help with purchasing an ML320 ECM

So I took my 2000 ML320 into the dealer and they told me I need a new ECM which is $2600 installed.

I looked around and found some used and/or rebuilt ones. I am now being told by Mercedes-Benz of OKC that I can't use one of those because they are ordered specifically from the dealer using my VIN number.

Is this true? I have heard of others doing this and was successful.

As long as used ECM is not older then yours. I believe there is an E-prom with program that any dealer with Star computer and loader can reflash to update the older units. I have Star manual and last version of the program came out in 2003. My guess would be that any working ECM from ML320 will work fine. Go by MB part No. on your unit, any major revisions will change this No.! You can buy whole ML320 at auto auction for that kind of money. Good luck.

Alright... this is going to brighten everybody's day up if you need a ecm for your ml320... since you cannot use another computer from another ml320... you will need to have it rebuilt... if you rebuild it it means you will not have to go to the dealer and have it programmed... average cost for a ml320 ecm rebuilt? 450!... that's it... you take the computer off yourself... send it in.. and within 4 5 days you receive it back... just plug it in and pfff problem solved... i got the crazy quote at the benz dealer too... and believe me my ears still hurt from hearing the price... there's also another way which you can bypass the whole dealer thing but iono if its legal to post it. all i'm going to say is find a wrecked one

Do you have a link for an ECM Rebuild service?
Thanks!

Default Ml 320 ecm repair

I can definately assist you with your ML320 ecm problem. I work on Bosch ecu engine computers for a living so I will try to answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. First off, these units are married to the vin and drive authorization system so a used one purchased from ebay or a salvage yard will not work. The only ecm I can program is a new or rebuilt unit with clear memory.
A used control unit can be modified to work but the pcb would have to be partially rebuilt in order to achieve this. Please refer to this web page for more information ML320 ecm engine computers and ML320 professional ecm repair. If you still have questions send me an email.
