My first Merc....possibly
Hello,
I'm looking around for an SUV to purchase. I've been looking at all small to mid SUVs and a buddy told me about the ML320. I would love to purchase a used one, which is in my price range, but I was wondering about costs. I have really only owned cheapy domestic cars since I was a kid, but not that I am in my mid 30's I'd like to finally "upgrade" if you will.
What kind and price of repair costs am I looking at? What about oil changes and tune ups? I am use to the local $55 oil changes from the quick lubes. Obviously I don't want to do this anymore with a Merc, but is it possible?
Thanks for all the help
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I have no experience with the ML320, but we have an 2004 ML350. it has been a good experience, however the maintenance cost are higher. If you are handy, the costs can be mitigated, however thing such as wheel alignments include height adjustment and cost around $200 dollars.
it is a great ride and you can get one up in the teens, look for special package models, like inspirations, etc. it looks nicer.
good luck
Tony

Hi Jeff,
If you DIY guy, the oil change will cost you $75. You will not like the gas consumption but you will enjoy the ride and power. Not as comfy as my '80 W126 280SE but much better then any other domestic SUV. Look for older model '98-'03, they seems to have less problems with alignment and electronic modules and the cost is less then $10,000.
Transmission fluid replacement (it is not one fill for a lifetime as MB engineers tought) and other small stuff that you have to watch for. Go for test drive and see what you think.
Good luck.
Bernard

Hi Jeff,
I purchased a 01 ML320 in February, overall i'm happy with it, only problem i had was a fuel sensor that cost me $400, however I get 100 more km to a tank of gas, which has easily paid for itself by now.
Oil changes here in Canada, are $140.00, the ML320 hld 8 L of oil..... so just the cost of oil is ecpensive..and the MB hour rate is $118....
I picked this up in Toronto for $17k, had 100,000km on it...much better than the 08 GM SUV's for 40k plus....thats the way i look at it.... I test drove a 08 Torrent and the 01 Benz blew it out of the water...and was 32k cheaper....I got the crome bush bar and side steps ...makes the truck look much better!
Good luck...go for the benz...u deserve it!
