This car was given to us by our FIL and we don't want to put much into it. I drove ten minutes to the dentist today, on the drive home the engine stalled and a "start error" message showed up where the mileage is.

I was able to coast home, thankfully. Just tried it again and it started up. Afraid to take it anywhere though.

Hoping for a cheap fix, but, if it sounds like something serious, we'll probably just sell it for parts.
