Lock vehicle while running?

Lock vehicle while running?
My Dad has a 08 ML550. He is looking for a way to lock the vehicle with the key fob while it is running to warm it up without worrying about any theft issues. You can lock the vehicle from the inside with it running but not with the fob. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!
