Default 2004 ML 350 DVD Navigation Disk Reading Error?

I get a disk reading error when I insert the Navigation disk (it asks to check the disk). However, the disk reads just fine on my laptop. Has anybody come accross such a problem? Is it the DVD device in the car that is not working properly or can it be that DVD devices on MBs are somewhat whimsical and it is simply that the disk is not perfect (it does have quite a few scratches, though like I said it reads on my laptop just fine)? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.[/align]

Default RE: 2004 ML 350 DVD Navigation Disk Reading Error?

Same thing happened to my 2004 ML350 last week. Worked fine until I tried to play a Christmas music CD. It would not detect a disk in the slot. Changed back to my NAV DVD, same message... "No CD. Please insert CD". Thought it might be a problem with the laser reading head and bought a DVD player head cleaning disk (it has tiny brushes on the surface). Still got error. Apparently the reading head is stuck on a track that is not its usual home position where it can read a CD/DVD disk information track. If we can get the head unstuck it may work but I've no idea how to do that other than giving the whole MCS unit a quick blow to the front....Hope someone is reading this to give us some hints on fixing this.
