Default 1999 ML 430 P0170 and P0173 DTC's

New member here. I have a 1999 ML430 which I have owned since new. It has presented no problems and has been well maintained. The vehicle is very low mileage (46K miles) and that is likely contributing ot the current problem. This car is driven by the wife and is garaged for long periods of time (up to six months each winter, and possibly for weeks in the summer).

Recently, I have been getting P0170 and P0173 fuel trim DTC's. These almost always occur at idle (650 rpm) and usually show the following frozen data:

Long Term Fuel Trim, Banks One and Two = 14.82%
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank One = -10.92% (number can vary, but is always negative)
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank Two = -13.26% ( " " " " " " ")

I have removed and cleaned the air mass sensor and cleared the DTC. However, the same codes return to trigger the check engine light in a few hours, or days, or a week or so. I am pretty sure the air mass sensor is the culprit. However, I am not certain.

Any help from the forum? Thanks,
