I'm new to this forum.. My dad is about to buy a 1994 Mercedes E420. It has 270,000 KM. He says the car is very clean and runs and drives smooth.

The only problem is that the "CHECK ENGINE" light is on and I was just wondering how to check it on this mercedes? Does it use an OBD2 Scanner? or is there another tool or method used to retrieve the code?

Early OBD compliant BUT likely uses unique MB socket.
Pre OBDII standardisation.
