Default 89 300E Console removal

I have to replace a fader switch on my console. I don't really want to start prying off anything without some instruction. Can anyone help! Cheers.

Are you referring to the console which holds your radio and buttons for air conditioner, hazard lights, antenna, etc?

Thanks for the reply. The console that I am referring to is the piece between the seats that encompasses the shift lever, window switches and the cassette radio fader switch.
Cheers.

remove cover on shift lever

pull off control switch for blower and air distribution

unscrew nuts (24mm) and screws

remove moulding

remove screws (4 pcs)

pull off electric plug connections and take off plate

pull off switch for rear window heater...push switch carrier to the right in forward direction out of detent and remove at the left toward rear.

unscrew nuts on connection from center console to instrument panel

push both holding links in downward direction and pull out radio

push back detent and take switch plate out of holder

unscrew rear fastening screw ( sometimes it is hidden by the small mat)

now, you are on your own... do it.

I think the part WertJamp is reffering to is between seats!

I have had mine out several times on my 87 300DT. I just pull out the carpet in the tray under the fold-out arm rest, and there is one philips screw, center forward in the tray. This holds the wood panel secure.

After the screw is out, lift the panel up from the rear. Because the switches are secured to the panel, and the plugs secured to a frame secred to the tranny hump, you will have to pry the wood panel up as it unplugs it's self. The forward part of the panel is hinged under the ashtry but after you raise the aft panel up, it will unhinge. You'll need to move the shifter into neutral position.

Now you can access the fader switch...........Good Luck!

Many Thanks to Sleepwalker and FogHorn. I'm on my way to install the switch. I'll keep you posted.

I just installed the fader switch following the instruction from FogHorn (no offrnse to SleepWalker). It took about 15 minutes of casual discovery. I have copied SleepWalker's instructions for future reference. Thank-you all.

Cheers, JDub
