Thanks alot guys. I will give it a shot later today. Back to Autozone, erase codes, see if it returns, maybe fiddle with the connector a bit to see if the dealer left it loose. BTW, if this part was bad or going bad, wouldn't the car run rough? Cause it is running perfect, plenty of power, mileage is normal. Thanks again guys, the help is truly appreciated.

The MAF runs on such a tight range due to strict federal mandates(emissions) they can throw a code or store a code and you would not notice much change for a long time unless it failed total, the problem is that ignored to long and the balance of fuel and air that they help maintain will cause issues further downstream with the cats and O2 sensors. So short term unless the car is in limp home mode and it is running fine you can drive it,long term not a good idea to drive with the CEL on and ignore it.And you are correct if it was unplugged you would have great issues but sometimes they are just ever so slightly not completely plugged in and cause intermittent issues.
Have fun with your first Benz DIY and tell us how it goes.

I forgot to mention, there is no CEL. I have read over in benzworld something oabout loading in codes, do I need to do something like taht after replacing MAF? And I want to see those pictures you so nicely put up, signed up for benzworld forum, got no e-mail to activate, lets me login but can't open attachments. [:@]

So I went back to Autozone, codes read totally clean. It says pass. I run it a few times, same thing. Tomorrow I go to local gas station for emmissions test. Damn dealer (stealer).

Hi,

Don't be too hard on the dealer.

Maybe there was a code which may have been entirely historical or even current BUT occurs only under "extreme" conditions. e.g a full throttle accel from low revs when cold.

Anyway if you can't get the problem to reappear be thankful BUT remember codes don't just appear. SOMETHING causes them to appear....UNLESS OF COURSE they are in somebodies imagination!

Stuart.

Did you replace the maf yet?If you checked the codes and none were stored,it's okay. What happens sometiomes is the maf or some other monitored item trips a cel, even a loose gas cap! Then the light goes off after the item goes back into range after a few drive cycles. The trick is the light is out but the code is stored for lots of drive cycles,if the problem doesn't reappear the stored code goes away,It's away for a mechanic to see the history of a code even after the light is gone,so no proof of mb dealer fibbing, you install the maf for way less money ,and learned that lesson we talked about.Whether they were trying to fleece you (I suspect)or not ,you have that nice car, running well and now know to diy some repairs and maint. items ,and stay away from the dealer.

Its is a good idea to leave it to proffessionals.Mine has AC problems and my car have difficulties in starting. The clutch gear doesn't engage, my trusted mechanic pointed out the master cylinder has to be replaced.Good thing I found some good quality of the parts so I bought also a good quality Iceman parts to get out of the stalling issue.

He is leaving it to professionals: engineers, experienced mechanics, etc.,who do you think he's dealing with? btw checked your parts supplier,I think you need to shop elsewhere. Most of the comparison items I use to check prices on mercedes suppliers are 100 percent AND more at your link. $235 for cabin filters? They are $87 at autohausaz , does your place make em out of gold or something? and that is only one of many items way overpriced.Maybe they are trying to give the dealer a good name!Go shopping ,if you can't do the repairs yourself at least look for the right parts at the right prices, shop there long enough and you will be penny less and thread bare in a years time. And please don't tell me you needed a trusted mechanic to tell you your clutch master has failed. My 11 year old son has been working on cars long enough to tell you that.....
