Default 2006 CLS 500 Idle Problems

Greetings Fellow Mercedes CLS Owners,

I just purchased a 2006 CLS 500 and am experiencing idle issues. The car is immaculate with 38,000 miles and I'm amazed I am dealing with type of problem. At an idle (in gear or in park) the car sporadically rocks / shakes like it's out of tune or miss firing. I have had into San Diegio Mercedes Benz (Penske) 4 times regarding this issue with no success. They confirmed the car checked out and is in excellent condition and up to Mercedes spec. Their top mechanics were involved in trying to resolve the issue and came to the conclusion that the rocking was standard for the 113 engine in my car. They also told me they had seen several other 2006 CLS500 with the same problem or even worse. That is insane and unacceptable for this level of car, or any Mercedes Benz for that mater.

Has anyone with similar problems pushed the issue with Mercedes Corporate? This is definitely something that needs to be addressed and resolved. In my opinion, if this is the standard then this is a defective engine and Mercedes needs to remedy.

Any assistance or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

Question

Hi,

I have a CLS320 CDI (2005/55) and am having the same problem. As the car is in drive, but not accelerating (i.e creeping forward 2-5mph) my car shakes/judders uncomfortably. I also find the same happens when breaking at a similar speed (for example crawling in heavy motorway traffic, slowing from maybe 5-10mph to a gradual standstill).

Nobody in the UK has a clue what's causing the problem or how to fix it, including Mercedes themselves and a Merc specialist. The problem has got to the point now where im worried my gearbox may one day fail completely and am now thinking about selling the car.

Im sorry this is all bad news and no solution to your problem, but if you think this sounds similar to your issue, and you find a cause/solution, please post on here! Any help would be much appreciated. And I will do the same!

Cheers,

Joel

Default I have joined the club!

I, as well, am experiencing idling problems. I am also experiencing a knocking sound near the rear passenger panel near the gas tank. This also happened with my brand new 2006 E350 when I bought it. For the E350, after several trips to the dealership, this was resolved with insulation being placed between the panel and some mechanism that makes the thumping noise. Now, back to the CLS 2006. I just bought it used with about the same amount of mileage as you have, Todd. As well, the CLS 350 makes noises that come from the steering column (and so did my E350).

I think that Mercedes is well aware of the problems that were inherent in the 2006 models (especially since I have had the same problems in two 2006s). My opinion is that they may tend to handle each case as if they are individual cases instead of providing support for customers in a manner that allows for us to find some comfort in them being able to find a solution(s). The only way I figured out the problem with the E350 is that I did my own research on the internet and provided this information to the dealership. Only then did they find a solution. At least your dealership acknowledged that the problems have been seen in other CLS 500s!!

Please let me know if any solutions are found.

Thanks,
Lorraine

i have a 2008 cls550, I've had this problem for roughly 10-15k miles now. it has 82k miles on it now, well the dealer said it was this and that.. all kinds of things well now i just got it back from the dealer today and they told me that one of the valves is bad and it loses cylinder compression at idle and its a $4300 fix!!! and they even said that it is something that is common and multiple other cls's they service have had this issue has anyone ran like a oil additive for lost compression or anything like that??

Default Cls500 shutting off at lights

My 2006 cls500 was randomly shutting off at lights and sometimes started right away and sometimes I would sit for over 2 hours. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and never happened again. Cheap and very easy fix under 20 minutes and about $30 part (oem)

Cheers!
