I'm trying to find a home for my new XM Roady-2 receiver. I don't smoke and the ashtray looks to be the perfect spot. I can get the ashtray itself out without any problems but I need to remove the cigarette lighter to make enough room for the receiver. It looks like it will just pop out, but I'm afraid to pull on it too hard. Is there a trick here?

once the ashtray housing is removed (only two screws... just pull up the shift lever cover from the front), it is easier to pull out the lighter.

yes, it's just pop in.

 

I had my XM Commander mounted in exactly the same spot. I had it professionally done, which cost $100, but I wanted it to look decent. They fabricated a panel out of matching textured vinyl, like the dashtop with the head unit centered. The door still shuts over the head unit without interference. Had the system wired into the COMAND Aux input, so I can still use the wheel volume controls and the Mute button. Not to mention that the NAV voice-over works with the XM playing.

What I also did, which I highly recommend, is to remount the 12V outlet inside the lower section of the center bin. Once you remove the ashtray and center plate around the shift, you can run the wires up into the bin and reinstall the plug. Now, I have my phone charger plugged into that and have the coil cord brought up into the top bin. It's a nice setup and much more useful than before, plus I can leave the charger plugged in all the time without some obnoxious thing sticking out of my dash.
