Default 03 clk 320 electrical problems

I am having electrical problems and was wondering if anyone else is. The seat belt presenter failed on the first day along with ESP sensor. Then within the first month either of the low beam HID headlamps would not start. It is an intermittent problem. They work sometimes and it was primarily the left one that failed. It has been to the dealer 3 times and the headlamps still don't work correctly. currently the left cluster has failed completely.

Also the passenger headrest didn't always go down when the seat was put forward for rear passenger entry. It was fixed

Also the driver door windows didn't seal when the door was closed. That was fixed.

Also the steering wheel doesn't always return to the memorized position when the key is inserted and the vehicle started. They cannot find a problem.

I think that is it so far. I have had the car since April. The tel-aid failed once too. No problem was found.

I really like the car, but the problems are getting to me a little.

Just wondering if anyone is having similar issues with CLK's or other newer model Mercedes.

I have just bought a new CLK 240 (similar V6 model to the 320) available here in the UK. I also have a C200 Kompressor and have recently sold my old CLK230K. The C200 and CLK 230 also had minor but recurring electrical 'gremlins' and it is known here in Europe that the electronics in Mercedes cars are a real problem. I know of several owners who have experienced problems similar to what you have described. Give the selling dealer hell, write to MB, create a fuss as they know there is electical faults in all the newer model cars. I hope my new one is fault free as I only got it today! Good luck with the car and Happy New Year from Scotland

In the states BMW is more known for electrical problems.

I am getting replies on other boards frop people with similar problems and a friend just told me he spotted a clk 209 style on the turnpike with a xenon headlamp out.

Mine is in the shop now and if it isn't fixed I have legal recourse I suppose. Lemon laws are developed here.

Is your CLK a manual shift? I wanted that, but it is not available in the states, nor are smaller engine choices. I would have gotten a smaller engine if I had the chance. Even though I will likely trade up to a 500. I drove a clk 55 and that was silly powerful.

Hi John

Thanks for the reply. I am glad to report that on day 3 of the new car it is fabulous! The 240 model in Europe is actually a 2.6 liter V6 engine that is identical to the 320 (3.2liter) with a smaller capacity. My CLK is an auto but we can get manual versions, however these are a factory order. Mercedes have the cheek to charge 1400 pounds (2000 dollars) extra for the auto box, but they all come with this as standard as the manual box has to be factory ordered! A frind of mine has a CL600. This is ridiculously quick - the 55AMG is a serious tool.

I hope your car is repaired soon and does not turn out a lemon - we have reasonably good consumer protection laws here in the UK, but not as good as yours! I am in California in early February attending a conference and I am looking forward to some sunshine!

Regards

Well it sounds as though I am in good company... I have had my 240 CLK (W209) for 18 months and have countless issues with it..

I admit most minor but because of the total failure in fixing them even on the 2nd (or sometimes 3rd) repeat visit they have become major issues with me... these include (yes I know they may sound picky but get in the car on any length of journey and you would also want to have it crash and burn!).. drivers door wind noise, passenger door constant 'squeek' as the body flexs, headlights switch off when auto wipers are turned off because of noise..

and the latest ECU light came on - called out mobile assist as local dealer wasn't interested in fitting me in.. mech replaced ignition coil now it stalls at idleand when I kick down it sounds like the engine is falling apart...

... yes it has gone back in once more!!!

Well, mine went into the shop today for a diagnosis of the electrical problem. The headrest button on the dash, the door locks, the trunk release and the headlight washer switch all stopped working together. Imediately after it was delivered by truck from California to Connecticut, that is, from mild temperatures to Baltic freezing.

During transit, the truck driver reported the trunk kept popping open. I thought that the sudden temperature change was exposing a weakness in some electronic part. Today, the dealer told me it was a module called the PSE Pump, located in the trunk. Anyone know what that is? Can shipping it by car transporter cause it to break?

John.

By the way muffd, I'm a Scot in Connecticut now.

Hi John

Good to hear from a Scot in the USA. I just returned from California on Friday. The electrical problems you describe happened to me on my last Merc (a C200K). This happened in November last year when the car was almost 3 years old. The trunk would open when driving along the road for no apparent reason or, when closed, would refuse to open when pressing the open button on the door. In addition, the rear lights would flash on and off continually and the fuel guage would go from full to empty continually. When I went to the Merc garage, they were famiiar with the problem and a couple of electronic components were replaced and this fixed the problem. It was only off the road a few hours. My CLK is perfect (it is now a month old), but the softtop has a rattle when driving on an uneven road - I will have this looked at when I get time. I have not tested whether the headrest button works or the headlight washer - but I will now!

regards
