[hr]For my 2000 500SL, Mercedes recently contacted me about the recall of faulty harmonic balancers. Since mine had already failed and been repaired, Mercedes refused to reimburse me because the replaced balancer did not have a Mercedes part number. They would not even reimburse for the labor or the damaged belt. Anyone else have a similiar experience? This may be my last Mercedes because of this treatment.

 

Tell them the Magnusson Moss Act (USA) allows your vehicle to be repaired with parts that meet or exceed OE specs and that can't void your warranty. The recourse they have is to replace all the parts and labor for free.

And besides, the dirty little secret is that they use aftermarket parts when they can't get their own too!!

Are they going to void your warranty because you are using QuakerState oil instead of Mobil? No, cause at least in Canada thats what their dealerships use.
