Default Sputtering, stalling 2002 C320 need assistance

Hello Fellow Forum members,

I am in need of assistance, i have a 2002 C320 model, whereas i had issues with the sputtering, stalling, and rough idle. I had my MBZ independant repair facility diagnose a bad fuel pump, we replaced the fuel pump, the fuel sending unit, as well as the fuel filter, and still get the sputtering. We started out thinking that is was the Crank Position Sensor before diagnosing the fuel pump, can anyone give us any suggestions as to where to start as there doesn't seem to be any other direction to move in....Any suggestions would be helpful.....

Is the check engine light ON? What is the trouble code? What condition are the plugs and wires? Are plug wires pushed on all the way? If all good, remove and inspect EGR valve tubing inserted in to intake manufold and also clean Throttle valve body actuator.

Default update, may have issues resolved

i found out the following so far, looks as if the battery alternator dash board light is being caused by a bad alternator diode, we have the new alternator going in tomorrow, will let everyone know the outcome, the second issue is the sputtering at stop signs etc, it looks as if this is old spark plugs....we will be replacing these tomorrow as well....will update the thread after\wards....

Default Sputtering stalling 2002 C320 need assistance

so after letting it run with the stock intake for about an hour, the knock is completely gone now which makes me feel a lot better about the situation so maybe that intake was messing with it somehow, anyways

the car is still sputtering really bad and now instead of the light being on constantly it will come on and off about every 2 or 3 minutes and stay on for about 5 minutes, since putting the stock intake back on it the car sounds a lot healthier,

now to correct the loss of power/sputtering

could having had that other intake on there somehow fouled up some plugs/wires?

should i try replacing the plugs/wires? and if that doesnt work maybe the fuel filter? I have no clue how long its been since either have been replaced....

Unhappy Sputtering and stalling

Hey Folks,

I am back with updates, however still issues that we thought were solved....So far we have done the following: Replaced fuel pump and sending unit, replaced the crank position sensor, replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, and after his can you believe it car the car is still sputtering and stalling, with no codes in the system....I have no idea as to where to start as the car is not given any codes at all any assistance or guidance, suggestions will be greatly appreciated as i am out of more cash and still don't have a great running car, all of the said work does have the car running decent however you would think after $1300.00 that the sputtering would be solved.....Geez

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Default Crank Won't Start- 2001 C320

I can't help but wonder if the problem I'm having is anything similar to yours. My main problem is that my car will randomly not start. No rhyme or reason to it. It's been happening for about 2 months every week or so. There aren't any pending codes. The car turns over and cranks but won't start. I've taken it to the Mercedes dealership and a German Automotive specialist. Dealership told me it was the battery, which we replaced, still having the problem. German automotive told me the fuel pumps, we replaced both.. still having problem. We put the stock Mercedes fuel pumps back in. Crankshaft positioning sensor was replaced about a year ago... Plus we can get the car to start with starter fluid. The European Auto mechanic place (third one it's been too) said it shouldn't be the sensor because if that was faulty there wouldn't be a spark to start the fluid. Now it's been at the European automotive for about a week. When the car first got there it wouldn't start, now it does, And has been since the first day it got there. With no codes and the car back to starting again he said there's nothing he can do. I did have a problem at one point amidst all this with the car starting, but then right away sputtering down and shutting off. I tried to start it like 5 times, kept doing the same thing. Then after sitting for about 10 min, it let me start the car and rev the gas (before the gas pedal wasn't even working) and as long as I kept the RPM's up for the next 5 min or so, it ran.

Default Success Finally

Hello fellow MB fans. There is a lot of info out there as to what is causing our cars to rough idle, and loss of power, finally success. I have had the sparks plugs changed, wiring changed, fuel pump, fuel sender, 2 oil changes..... and quite a few hours at mercedes tring to figure out the problem. Unless you have the right computers to read and clear codes, even seasoned mechanics, didnt think that all codes should be cleared in all sections of the diagnostic and all reset to factory.

Turns out....if there is a misfire (as I had) the computer sends a message to the transmission telling it its ok to keep to driving and it compensates for the rough running.

We found that the codes P2001, P2600 and one more I cant remember. to be the problem, even though the mechanic cleared the engine codes (misfires) the codes in the transmission had not been cleared and reset.

Once this was done, the car was running perfectly again.

Strange but true..
