Default Low Octane Gas? Bad Smell.

Hi,

Can using low octane gas make the Cathlytic Converter smell real real bad?

Thanks,
Ben

No. It's not the grade of gas but the formulation that causes the stink. Some gas has a high concentration of particular chemicals that react in the catalytic converter and cause a sulphur buildup at highway cruising speeds that smells like rotten eggs during acceleration.

Change to a different brand of gas. It may help, it may not. Keep changing brands until, hopefully, it quits stinking.

i also have encountered such cars.

i know that nothing is wrong with the engine.

out of curiousity, i've tried to lean or enrich the mixture, but it still smells.

next time i will advise them to fill on different brand.
