They used to say that a lot with new cars but today's newer technology doesn't really require you to do that.
You can if you somehow feel it's going to make your engine happy, but really, it's not necessary. Some still believe it is.
Like everything else. The piston rings are already "seated" when the car left the factory. The important thing now is to do
the proper maintenance to keep it the way it is.

First of all, congratulations on your new car! You will love the engine and the general feeling of quality in everything on the car. I am of the old school and have not only my own experienceto draw upon, but I am fortunate to have Mike Miller as a cousin. Mike writes the "Tech Talk" column for Rondel (the BMW Car Club monthly magazine. He writes a simular column for BIMMER magazine. Within the past 3 years, He purchased a new BMW 325; here is what he did with his own personal car at his own expense.1200 miles:Engine oil and filter changeTransmission oil change (manual)Differental oil change1 year or 12000 miles:Brake fluid flushAir filters2 years or 24000 miles:Coolant change.Oil and filter changes every 10000 miles (with Red Line Synthetic); this interval was the result of oil annalysis done by an independent lab.My gut sense is that Mike is far more knowledgable than most of us. I hope you find this useful.Regards,Will
