2001 c220 cdi - recurring ESP problems
Hi guys
Hoping someone can offer some advice. My 2001 c220 cdi is having recurring ESP problems. In September I got a sensor in the boot (right hand side) replaced and the problem appeared to be sorted. It began happening again a few weeks ago and I had another sensor in the boot replaced as the fault wouldn't clear from the STAR machine without being replaced.
Unfortunately it began happening again yesterday. When the problem kicks in the ABS light comes on, and the car applies the breaks itself. Its very scary when it happens - it pretty much stops the car moving in sporadic a few times in a row and then its ok again. Gives the impression of dragging something underneath but its just the ABS braking.
This usually happens on a corner. I can also feel something happening under the front of the car (I think its at my drivers side front wheel) when I have the car on full lock (turn) in reverse. Its like something is popping out.
My husband (who rebuilds classic cars but is lost on modern electronic mechanics) replaced my wishbones about 6 months ago, and had thought the track rod ends might be causing the 'popping' sensations on full lock from the front drivers wheel - but our merc specialist mechanic said they were ok. Said the bearings were ok too. He couldnt see anything out of place to do with the wheels on the front of the car.
The car is costing me a fortune and its very scary when it happens too
Can anyone suggest what it might be?
Thanks v much
Sam
