Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have a question. I haven't had my C230 for a super long time and yesterday we had a lot of rain. My "brake wear" light came on in the messages in my dashboard. My brakes totally seem fine. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I called the dealership and they said they could reset it, but it would keep coming on until I had my brakes looked at. Any help is appreciated.

there is no such thing as a brake wear reset. replace the wear sensor and all should be ok.

They want to look at your brakes to be sure the sensor on one of the pads has not tripped to indicate you need new pads. If your pads are good, then only the sensor needs to be replaced. It's an inexpensive item (8-10 dollars) with some labor to put a new one in if that's the only problem. On my 2005, there is only ONE on the whole car, and that's on the right front. I imagine you probably have the same thing, but don't quote me on that one.
The front pads usually wear faster than the rears, and that's why they only put on on the front of the car. Girl or guy, mechanical aptitude depends on what your level of competency.
I've seen a lot of female mechanics that are highly trained and very good and a lot of male mechanics I wouldn't let put air in my tires. Brakes are such an important part of a vehicle, I think maybe this time let a tech look at it (as you are) and be done with it. But now you know about the sensors. It's just a small sensor with a wire coming out of it. It goes in your brake pad and when the pad gets worn down somewhat, it trips and the light comes on. Simple.
