slk230 start problem
I can see lots of start problems on the forum but have not found this one. Car is sat on drive and will not let the key turn in the ignition. It is not the wheels off centre applying load to the steering lock as was originally parked with wheels turned and steering lock did not line up, although I have engaged the lock and then rocked the steering wheel in subsequent attempts to get some movement in the key without success. Tried 2 spare keys with same lack of success. Key still works remote lock/unlock ok. Anyone any clues please?

will not let the key turn in the ignition
sounds like the steering lock is locked permanently.
try pushing the brake pedal down as much as you can...

RE: slk230 start problem
hi bazzle, thanks, I will post on the benzworld.org forum
hi sleepwalker, car is Jane's (spouse) toy and I will repair myself unless the tooling gets very specialised, I could grind off the existing steering lock and replace if thats what it comes to for instance, but I would need to find guidance on removing trim. Tried the car again after standing overnight, no joy. Tried the brake pedal in every combination I could think of, one foot, two feet, before trying the key, whilst trying the key, all with no success.
Am I right in thinking this has to be mechanical? There will be a light spring holding the lock mechanism which is jammed, maybe spring broken or similar?
Is the lock common with other models?
