I am unable to open the hood on my 87 560SL. I pull the latch back and pull up and nothing. I can hear the latch when I push the hood down the half inch and back up, you can hear it catch. The latch behind the star springs back when I pull but it will not allow me to open the hood up. It fine last week? there were no signs of any problem that I could see, it just stopped working. I had the car for over seven years and never had any problems with the hood befor. Can anyone out there help me with my hood latch problem?

 

Try this, go to a hardware store and buy a 1/4 inc alum. road about 6" inch or longer, bend one end like a hook, so that it can fit thru the opening in the grille, fish around until you hook the secondary lacth and pull, it should pop the hood. That's what is not working the second latch, when you pull the handle in the car that releases the primary latch and when you pull the star of handle or whatever that releases the secondary, you might have to get a flashligt and get down on your knees to see where the secondary latch is. It worked for me once.
