Hello and thank you in advance with any advice you may offer. I know little about cars and even less about tires and rims. I have a 2006 Mercedes CLK500 convertible. I am the second owner and have had it since 2014. I knew I needed new tires soon and saw a local ad features 4 Mercedes rims and tires. My car came with 17 inch rims and 225/45 R17 tires. The ad was for 18 inch Mercedes rims - tires 225/45 R18. So I bought them. They were on a 2006 SL500. I decided to change out the rear first. All went well and I loved the look of the larger rims and slightly higher car profile. When I tried to change out the front rims and tires - the new set were too big and were rubbing up against what I guess are the struts? Whatever it is the rim and tire are not fitting- so what gives? Would a tire with less of a side profile (height) solve the problem?
