I have more than one favorite. </P>

'58 Olds Road Boat and occasional motel for me and a friend or four/five, whatever. Had a 4-spd auto and355(I think) V8.Could chirp3rd gear. I went off-roading in it a lot. I wouldn't take my truck to some of the places we sailed that Olds. It died a sudden and gruesome death one dark night. I was turning a corner in a rural area (very dark out) and the theory goes: The ignition coil came loose from the intake manifold androlled across it and created a FEW mega-shorts. Consequently,EVERY single electrical wire in the entire car from the front bumper to the rear bumper instantly burned its insulation off. The underside of the dash lit up like a disco from glowing wires as the inside of the car very quickly filled with dense smoke. I was by myself. I couldn't see anything. NOTHING. Not even my own body parts. I dove out while the car was still moving andcoughedas I watched it roll into a roadside ditch. I left it there for the tow truck. It was a damn fun car, that Olds.</P>

'66 Corvette convertible. The first car I paid for myself. The first car Igot nooky in that was my car and not my parents.</P>

'64 Corvair. I still have cool hallucinationsfrom breathingthe fumesthat thing produced. Ralph Nader was right, BTW.</P>

'66 GTO. 389, tri-power, 4-spd.Why I got rid of this I'll never know, but I still kick myself for doing it.</P>

I like all the cars I have right now. I'mold enough now tochoose what I drive.</P>

The Chevelle is a riot to drive. I get a lot of these <IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0">when I putt around in it. Strangely (maybe not), more womenreact openly to it than men. Driving the Chevelle is like walking in a park with a cute puppy. It's a babe magnet.I know the guys notice and approve, but they don't all show it like the women do. You can't help but notice it at a stoplight. It vibrates other car's seats and rattles their windowswhen it idles, yet most men won't look over. They pretend they don't notice.Ain't a big deal. Just take a peek, guys.</P>

The worst car I everowned was an MGB roadster. What a freakin' piece of trash car. No offense, but this car was a British BONER.It would have been somewhat okay if the world went steeply downhill no matter where you went in kind of an Escher-type of a world. That gutless piece of poopcar. I could outrun that "car" while eating a sandwich and drinking a glass of milk.I didn't think of it until after I traded it off, but I should have driven into the lake just to watch it sink. It would have been the fastest tripit ever took. And, I could have collected some insurance money for enduringthe grief I didwhile I owned it.</P><edited><editID>Lugnut</editID><editDate>37994.0158680556</editDate></edited>

Yes it was imported from germany in limited numbers in the early eighties for reason only known to Ford Deutchland it the name Sierra was dropped for Merkur.....it was the three door shape and was based on the body of the XR4i which in the uk was the v6 2.8efi and had a differet set of quarter light windows to the similar 3 door Cosworth. In the USA the emissions and other marketing factors lead to what i think was a Mazda unit...a 2.3 turbo...there is a US Based owners club...bang it into a browser..you should find it....</P>

</P>

Someone asked if i liked it more than the Benz.....in some ways yes....one these twisty UK country lanes it would hammer the C280....and i had a long hard life with little complaint.....the MB has yet to answer that one..I hope it will<IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"></P>

I'm with Lugnut on the multiple favorites. However, I disagree with the MGB diatribe.</P>

'69 Beetle - My most trusty car. I did everything with this thing. Drove coast to coast, delivered pizzas, autocrossed, rallyed and bounced off-road with it. </P>

'71 MGB - Bought it for $200 with a blown motor, put about $800 into it over the time I owned it and sold it for $1800. Another coast to coast car and very reliable after replacing the SU's with an older set. I still can't figure out why I got rid of this one.</P>

'71 Lotus Europa S2 - Tons o' fun to drive and autocross. Kissed a tree at 30mph and it was done for. I now have a '73 Europa Twin Cam, but it hasn't been near as dear to me.</P>

'80 MB 300SD - I did the maintenance on some of these when I was a mechanic back in the early 80's. I loved the size, the engine and that turbo whine. I bought one when we needed a sedan and drove the wheels off the poor beast. Got it up to 300k miles before unloading it. </P>

'79 MB 450 SLC 5.0 - Oh baby but I love this car. One of 1470 built, aluminum 5-liter, aluminum hood and deck lid, a great exhaust sound and plenty of power. Just eats up the road and the lines look fast before it's even started.</P>

Unfavorites:</P>

'95 Jeep Wrangler - bleh. Never should have bought it. Too small, too rough and the top was too much trouble.</P>

'90 Suburban - Loved it initially, but it was a Chevy, so that didn't last long.</P>

MY FIRST CAR WAS A MINI COOPER 1 YEAR AGO AND THAT WAS THE BEST CAR THAT I EVER. AND NOW I HAVE A MERCEDES SLK 230 KOMPRESSOR AND THIS IS THE WORST CAR BECAUSE THE STEERING IS CRAP AND THERE IS NOT ENOUGH POWER. PLUS TO END IT THERE IS A NEW MODEL COMING OUT IN THE SUMMER.
