2003 s500 Parktronic malfunction
Has anyone experienced difficulties with their Parktronic system when driving in the rain. I have driven in a heavy rain twice and both times the system malfunctions. I just had two sensors replaced. On the way home from the repair, it started to rain again and within 5 minutes, the system was down again. I usually get 2 red bars on each indicator and then the car shuts the system down so that the parktronic button on the dash lights up. I have checked that the sensors are clean and are not scratched. Any other ideas? Thank you so much to anyone who has some insight. (huff4@***.net)

this is normal for the parktronic to do that in heavy rain and snow. this happens to you at only speeds of 10mph or less right? parktronic doest work above that. they do have updated less senstitve sensors for parktronic. But yes rain and snow and leaves will cause the partronic to activate.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, the parktronic seemed to work fine at lower speeds, however, once I drove over a few miles in the rain, the system malfunctioned again. I wiped off the front and back bumpers to make sure the sensors were clean but still get the error message I previously mentioned. The car doesn't reset the parktronic after the sensors are clean and dry. Could it be that something is exposed under the bumper that might cause this to happen. Thank you again for the reply.

to know fully what the problem is it must be taken to the dealer, but just a small misalignment of the sensors can cause them to act erratically too, or you could have a bad control module. usually it is an over sensitive sensor or improper installation of the sensors. or your bumper is damaged, could also be a front license plate thats interfering with the signal too, or EZ pass mounted close to the sensors. thats the best i can do for you.

Thank you again for your response. It could be a misalignment of the sensors, however, it has only happened to me afte driving the car in rain. This would also probably rule out the license plate. I think that I will have the control module checked out. Thank you again for the great ideas. If you hear of someone else with the same problem, I would welcome more information.
