W124 230E mercades engine damper assembly on front of sump
Hi
I have recently had to replace the sump on my 1987 w124 230e mercades with one from a 1983 w123 mercades. The problem is that on the original sump, some of the bolt holes on the front are longer.
(the old sump, the three elevated sections on the right are the longer bolt holes. On the new sump the bolt holes are all the same length as the one on the left)
This means that the brackets that were on the front of the sump, one that holds an engine damper and the other that attaches to what I think is the oil pump no longer fit properly. In order to fit them I have used a number of drilled out bolts and washers to space out the bolts.
What I'm worried about is that as the damper and the brackets pull the bolts around, it is going to strip out the bolt holes in the engine block, and this seems to have happened with one bolt hole on each bracket. I'm going to Locktite the bolts in place but wanted to make sure everything as alright before I did
Just want to know if I have put the assembly on the front of the sump back on properly, (because I didn't have the foresight to take pictures when I took it off) and if there is any better way to get around the fact that the bolt holes in the new sump are shorter.
Any help is appreciated. This is my first post so please forgive any violation of forum etiquette
As a sidenote during this repair I found that one of the oil intakes also had to be replaced before the sump would fit properly. The new oil intake came from the same engine as the sump.
