240D Newbie needs general help!
Hi Guys & Gals,
I have just purchased my first Mercedes its an ex - German 200D LHD which has been repowered with an ex RHD 240D engine sometime in the last decade. I have always had classic cars and am generally handy with a screwdriver but am a complete novice as far as Mercedes Benz's go.
The car has been pretty much un maintained for the last decade and I have various jobs to do however I am a bit stuck on a few items, in particular the car is very prone to "bunnyhopping" and is very hard to get a smooth gearchange with. It also tends to "surge" especially when cold. To combat the surging I am changing the oil and have just bought filters etc and am planning on running castrol magnatec 15-40 in place of the rediculously thick 20-60 that is in it right now so hopefully that may end that problem although I am still keen on any other thoughts for improvement.
I suspect that the jerkyness could be partly caused by the home made throttle linkage (seems to be an adapted one from a RHD car and has very little travel) and will order a replacement a.s.a.p but would welcome any other suggestions too.
The last issue of the moment is that the idle adjustment cable etc seems to be monkey'd with and to be honest I a not sure what the situation should be on the dash, I have one **** that I can pull to stop the car but that is about it and I suspect I should have two as there are two cables protruding.
Many Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide! I have attached some photos of linkages etc for comment!
