Default 1998 E300 D 30K Miles

Here's one for all you diesel doctors out there. There is a guy here in Cleveland selling the subject car on Fleabay. The car had a rough idle. Someone diagnosed the problem as low compression in one cylinder. The valve cover is off the engine. Car must be reassembled first and drived or towed to new home. I have owned several Mercedes over the years including an 83 300SD.
Question, how can a M-B diesel with only 30K miles have compression problems? I am considering buying another MB diesel but what I read on this and other forums concerns me about the realiability of the newer diesels. Whats up?

i ve seen this car listed several times on ebay already, seller avoided pretty much all of my questions, except a reply that car is not driveable. if i recalled he also wanted a huge amount of money for the car. i suspect the car has/had been run no oil or seriously overheated. nice looking ride if i recall thou........ probally has bank note...... is it still listed ? i have carfax acc. and could do carfax, maybe a salvage or something.

Looks like it was involved in a New York accident undisclosed of severity and also a New Jersey accident, also of undisclosed severity.... bear in mind that this car was subjected to an area that has a high frequency of "fender-bender" or lite hit, activety........Not uncommon for a city car and may not factor serious issues.........but one cylinder low of compression is serious, reguardless.........REPLACE engine... VALUE of car less the amount of money to perform such.

Another MBZ diesel engine goes to waste. He might just be trying to get over.
