Scratches in clearcoat

Scratches in clearcoat
I just bought a 1995 E300. The previous owner went through automatic car washes and has scratches the finish. In the evening it doesn't look bad at all but in direct sunlight it looks terrible. Can this be buffed out and re-clearcoated. The color is Smoke Silver. Back off from the car and it looks fine. Thanks

Buffer I got. What compound would you reccommend. In the years before clearcoat I used Dupont rubbing compound followed by Dupont polishing compound followed by carnuba wax. Today ther is so much out there to chose from making all kinds of claims I'm just plain confused. Thanks

in dealership, we always use 3M rubbing compound.
on tuesday i will attend the introduction meeting about SONAX products. maybe it will replace 3M, but the paint will still be BASF glasurit.

sleepwalker is right on the money with the 3M compound.......that thing does miracles on cars, my friend who worked at a body shop recommended that to me on my previous car and it pulled off miracles beyond miracles. He used to get me that stuff for free but he tells me that stuff costs around 50-80 dollars for a 1 Liter bottle yikes

wash your car, clay bar it. Then use Poor boys 3.0 heavy polish, follow up with a med polish 2.5 and then Poor boys 1.0 polish. rewash, then glaze with menzerna full molecular jacket. follow up with poor boys Ex-P sealant. Than use a carnuba wax to finish up. I recommend poor boys natty blue wax. Good luck. You want to use a PC or porter cable orbital buffer with apply these polishes. you can do it by hand, but the results vary. I have excellent luck with these products. you can buy them from www.detailedimage.com Talk to Greg or George, they will hook you up.
