Idle on 1982 380sl
Hi everyone,

New to the site and I have a question about my 380sl. Does anyone know where I can adjust the idle or acces the idle control valve for cleaning? And, has anyone tried the alldata.com service? wondering if that's worth the money...thanks

what is it doing? is it running on high RPM? The idle control valve is in front of the air filter housing. you can clean it with carb cleaner but if your idle is too high most likely the idle control unit behind the firewall below the windshield is faulty.
You can't adjust the idle control valve...It's hard as hell to do even if you are an expert. It's because you have to have the engine warm so that you can mess around with the control valve and alot of other stuff I forgot. My advice is take it to the dealer or a shop. Most likely you will need to replace the unit itself, I took mine to the shop to get the idle control valve adjusted and he did adjust it but he said that it will only last a year until it goes bad again...But at least it will run perfect for another year until I have to replace it.
I have a 1984 380SL that idles at 450 to 500 RPM in gear and ablot 625 to 650 in neutral. My question is how to increase the idle speed somewhat so it idles about 100 rpm faster in gear. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks Tom
