Would anyone happen to know exactly what the expansion valve for the air conditioning does?

Basically it separates the high-pressure from the low-pressure sides of the system. It creates the low pressure where the liquid refrigerant can boil, therefore get cold. Aaaaahhhhhh! Coooooolllllll!
