Default 4.5 L cam timing

I am finishing building a '76 450 engine w/hyd lifters. I have a new chain. The book explains a procedure to determine cam timing by valve opening vs crank position. At TDc (#1) the left cam marks should line up but the right may be up to 7Deg. retarted. ( both marks will never line up) This procedure would cause me to move the chain on the right bank cam gear a tooth or two off the marks. Is this for a used chain or what? Can someone please give me some help? Thanks, Joe.

VIN?

you got the wrong book or maybe it is for elongated chain only or it is the maximum permissible tolerance.

just align the timing.

Yes I am found out that procedure is for a streched chain. For a new chain just line up the marks. For a streched chain line up the marks by moving the cam gear or adding offset keys to get as close as you can. Thanks, Joe
