Default Engine Temp

Hi everyone, just joined the Mercedes family (used to own a BMW). Have noticed the temprature guage often going above the 80 degree (halfway) mark during medium length (40 min) trips. Is this normal? I have checked the coolant levels when cold and the coolant is in the expansion tank as stated it should in the manual. I can't see any leaks.

I have a CLK 320........any info is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

about 85 to 90 (i.e. 87) degrees, depending upon situation, is the noraml operating temp.
