Click on User CP up above.
You will see "Settings & Options" and under it, click Edit Avatar (http://mercedesforum.com/forum/profile.php?do=editavatar).
From there you can link a picture from the internet (Photobucket, for example) or upload a picture you have stored on your computer. Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).
