Default 2001 s500 with around 130,000 miles on it, still reliable or worth it?

The s500 is only 12,000 dollars, pretty cheap for such a nice car but does anyone know how long this thing will keep up? Will maintenance be a pain? Ect, ect.
Any information on this situation will be helpfull.

Thanks in advance.

I dont have a W220 S Class but I have owned a couple older W126 S Classes and have ran them 150,000+ miles. My current S Class has 111,000 on it. If this 01 your looking at is well taken care of and drives allright then go for it if you want to. I would have it inspected before purchase at a local shop or by a tech.

Well maybe back in the day a mercedes well taken care of even half way with 130,000 would be a good steal as it would've been hardly broken. Now and days, not that anything wrong with newer ones or less reliable, it's just that they aint metal and wood anymore and a lot more complicated.

As mentioned earlier, keep in mind the maintanence cost especially if this is your first mercedes. This is considered a high end luxury vehicle and even though the purchase price has dropped significantly since new in 2001, the maintanence have basically stayed the same. Oil changes are a bit more expensive to get done and it should be coming up on the schedule B maintance. oh that was already said. no matter. People still over look it sometimes. Hopefully it was already done so it can save you three hundred if not, no biggy as three hundred can save you thousands down the road.
As with any used car, get it inspected and dont be heart broken if the mechanic tells you it's a toad even if it's been dealer maintain which dont mean much these days.

In the end if all is well and all things checked out, then this car should last a while. Go for it.Keep in mind too that there are many electical componets in that thing, more than the average household desktop it seems just to run the AC alone. So glitches as it ages do happens (as in any car). Mechanically they tend to be pretty problem free.
