Default New car first engine oil change at 13,000 miles?

Hello everyone, I have purchased a new C300 4matic a month ago and it just reached 3400 miles. The service manual said my first service is due at 13,000 miles, which include oil change, I called in the dealer todayand they confirmed about it. I am wondering if the mileage is too high for the first oil change, I thought oil change needs to be done more frequently for new cars. Is it the same for all mercedes cars?
Thank you very much

Daniel

Daniel...the service interval is 13k or one year.just take it in on time and you'll be fine....if you want you can just get a LOF in between oil changes,,but you have a warrany so it doesnt matter..

Sorry to disagree, but Mercedes had numerous engine problems as a result of the 13k intervals for oil changes. On a new car, I would hved dumped the oil after 1200-2000 miles. No matter how advanced Mercedes are, metals and oils still react the same; IE: there are still small imperfections in the surfaces which will shave off as the new engine runs in and there will be metal particles in your oil which will travel around the engine and serve as an abrasive withparts you don't want to expose to same. Secondly, unless you are driving coast to coast and back, mostly on interstates, 13k is usually too far to go with the same oil. If you doubt that, send an oil sample into an independent lab for testing and read the sheet you get back. A relative of mine is an automotive journalist who runs super high quality Red Line Synthetic. The result of his oil annalysis indicated that he could go a MAXIMUM of 10k and this in a car that sees far more long distance highway driving than most. In short, you have just purchased an excellent car. If you want tokeep it that way, don't be cheap when it comes to oil changes. These intervals weredeveloped by yuppie accountants and marketing people who were trying to change the (correct) perception that German cars required more maintenence than their automotive counterparts from Japan and the USA. It also makes them attractive to people who lease every 2 years and don't care if they turn in a car whose engine is a mess internally and will begin to have increasing problems as it ages with it's 2nd and 3rd owner. In my humble opinion: CHANGE THE DAMN OIL AND FILTER NOW AND EVERY 5-7000 MILES THEREAFTER DEPENDING ON YOUR DRIVING STYLE.Regards,Will

Agree with you completely, Will. Cheap insurance I think. We all want to save money but that old saying, "Pay me now or pay me later"
comes to mind. I'd rather pay a little now.

i just recently bought a c 300 and the dealer recommend to have the car check out bet 1000 to 3000 miles. My dealer includes this service for free along with free tire rotation bet. 5000 to 6000 miles. Check out with your dealer if this service is included with your purchase.

yes, these servicesare included for me too, but they only check the fluid level and tire pressure for the 1000-3000 miles one, LOF is not due until first service at 13,000 miles.
