Default Desirability of 2000 S500

I've been offered a 2000 model S500 with 35K for 23,800. Appears excellent with no discernable paintwork, very few dings, etc. Have maintenance questions pending with owner. Question is, inasmuch as this is the first year for this very sophisticated car (particularly suspension), is that a reason to stay away from it. All opinions welcome.

Default RE: Desirability of 2000 S500

The W220 was known for water encroaching into the cabin and electrical problems as a result. I also think that there were some suspension issues on some cars Other problems were body and paintwork issues. Some of these cars I think were covered by the 30 year warranty, so you may want to check that services/inspections were up to date. Personally I would use great caution when looking at the W220 S-class (the design that was launch in 1999/2000) I favour of the W140. Sadly the accountants got control and interferer, however you may be able to find a good one and deal with problems as and when they come up. The saddest thing is that this was not a bad car it was just produced when Mercedes lost its way with quality. All that said I still think they are better than anything else on the road. You may want to have a look for a buyers guide on the internet and http://www.whatcar.co.uk/ has good reviews and advice is applicable weather you live in the UK or not.

This link will take you to the reader review section on the what car pages for the model of car you are interested in.
