Default Fuel injection system?

Can someone tell me what the fuel injection system is on an SL 320 (1997 model)? Is it L-Jetronic?

yours is ME-SFI (motor electronis sequential fuel injection)

that is the latest system used and is still being used in production now. your car belongs to the very first batch considering the last 6 digits.

Thank you Sleepwalker, for the useful information. I will try to get some information on this system. While the car runs great......I would still like to understand the system, for potential problems that will eventually arise. I just bought this car, last weekend, with 34K miles.

I understand the K-Jetronic system very well, from working on my 83 Boxer.

BTW: Can you tell me what type of analyzer I would use to diagnose the engine.......codes, etc.? Would it be an OBD II, with some special connector?

Thanks.

most probably it can use both, but your's is an earlier version and i only use HHT (hand held tester) by SEIMENS.
kindly check on the front right side of the car (open the engine hood) for data link connector. you will see a round 38 pin diagnosis socket on it. if not, then you can only use obd2. obd2 is only 16 pin connector located inside the car under the dash.

since you are only going to diagnose your car for personal use, i advise you to buy a DATA SCANNER made by AUTOLAND model OB91. it is made in USA and must available right where you are. they will advise you which accessories needed for you car like: 91-CU1 connector, etc.
your engine is: 112.943 model is:129.064
OB91 can do almost all the things you need to know like: fault codes and explanation, actual values, actuations and extracting control units version. sadly you cannot do the coding and programming. you don't have to do it anyway because it's a little sensitive matter.

HERE'S some tip:
check if your car have gone some service measure (recall). most of the dealer will claim the service measure from your car although they didn't do it and sell the parts instead... just a precaution.

(1) BAS (brake assist system) control module (below brake booster) and travel sensor (on brake booster, outside you can see). check if it has a blue dot (paint) on it. if it has, it's done.

(2) wiring harness for special equipment block.
check wiring harness under the brake booster for date of manufacture (22.06, 11.07.98) and part number (A129 540 62 07) needs to be resoldered. a green or blue spot on the spareparts plate means it's okay.

(3) airbag mount in steering wheel.
check the two screws holdin the airbag if it is loose.

any other question, just ask us.
