I have just bought a 1990 300SE and the Cruise Control rarely works. Sometimes it decides to accelerate to the prior speed, too! I set it at 35mph and it climbs to 65mph and then stays there, as if that is the speed I have set. Sometimes it will brake by itself at 60mph. All in all something is *very* wrong.

I have looked online at parts and have seen the following Cruise Control parts: Amplifier $257; Actuator $223; Switch $45.

Any suggestions as to what I probably need?

Hi, I am not sure exactly what is wrong but I have an 350 SDL 1990 and sometimes (very rarely) the cruise control works but then all of a sudden it completely quits and does not work for weeks. Mercedes says it is very likely the amplifier. Germanstar.com sells them for 240 Dollars and the actuator for like 198 Dollars. My question. Did you find outwhat was wrong with it yet? I can not find the actuator on my car. Can you please tell me where it sits and how to reach it?

Hey Ya'all, I have about the same problem with my 89 300SE. I have a mechanic I can trust and i am a fair mechanic myself but he says that almost always it's the amp that is the problem. It is buried up in the dash and they get $600 approximately to fix it. I just live without for now.

Hi all. As you can tell I have a 380se. I also have the same problem with my cruise control. It used to work intermitently and now it doesn't work at all. So is the problem generally the amplifier?

If you want a nice DIY project, try getting a used one from a junkyard, or ebay, and installing it yourself. It will save you a lot of money.
